Congratulations to the following REEF members who have recently moved up an Experience Level in our Volunteer Fish Survey Project!

Volunteers have the opportunity to advance through 5 levels (Novice through Expert) within each of our survey project regions. Experience Levels are obtained by a combination of fish/invertebrate ID tests and numbers of submitted surveys. As they advance, their data is categorized in our online sightings database accordingly.

Join REEF staff members Ellie Place and Janna Nichols in Monterey on Sept. 27-29 for three days of diving, California marine life ID classes and fun!

We welcome both experienced surveyors and those new to fishwatching (and everyone in between).

Last summer, we launched a brand-new version of the REEF website! There are many improved features on this new interface that we'd like to share with you. This month, we'll show you how to find a geographic zone code for a dive or snorkel site you’ve surveyed or are going to survey.

Step 1: Go to the Programs Tab on www.REEF.org and select Geographic Zone Codes & Maps

Step 2: Select the region you want on the list

Step 3: Locate on the map the area you want, and hover your mouse over it.

This month-long GAFC event is sponsored by CoCo View Resort and hosted by Allison & Carlos Estape. Every July, divers and snorkelers worldwide join to learn about marine life and conduct fish surveys as a part of REEF's ongoing Volunteer Fish Survey Project. CoCo View Resort in Roatan, Honduras celebrates this event for the whole month of July to educate and encourage divers and snorkelers to become citizen scientists. The GAFC is a catalyst to introduce divers, snorkelers and the general public to volunteer in fish monitoring.
