In the water

Water temperatures were 55F. Nevertheless, members of the Pacific Northwest REEF Advanced Assessment Team (AAT) jumped off a perfectly good boat last month to count fish and invertebrate populations, all in the name of citizen science and fun! Expert Level surveyors (Levels 4 and 5) assisted with the annual Salish Sea monitoring project. This year’s effort was focused in the southern Salish Sea - South Puget Sound in Washington.

Learn about unique features that can distinguish various Pacific Northwest fish and invertebrates. This online web chat will be in the format of a game where a close-up of one feature of a critter is shown and viewers can guess what critter they think it is from. ALL EXPERIENCE LEVELS ARE WELCOME.

Even if you don't know ANY of the species this will be a great way for you to learn about what features you can clue in on to help you identify the species.

Dive into Saltwater State Park's vibrant marine ecosystem at our upcoming REEF Marine Life Top 25 event. This unique experience offers an engaging educational journey through the park’s diverse habitats, guided by the expertise of REEF, the Reef Environmental Education Foundation.

Participants will learn to identify the park's top 25 fish and marine critters, contributing to valuable long-term data through REEF surveys.

NOTE this dive has been canceled due to bad weather

Autumn is a wonderful time to dive, and this is the perfect opportunity to practice your newly refreshed fish ID skills from the Zoom class on Thursday November 14. (register if you haven't already). But you don't have to attend the class to come to this dive.
