EVENT DESCRIPTION: Join us for our monthly Fish ID Training Seminar at Shark’s Cove / Pupukea Beach Park. During this FREE training class hosted by Malama Pupukea Waimea, you will learn the names of Hawaii's common reef fishes and how to conduct REEF surveys. After the training seminar, participants will have the opportunity to work in a team to conduct a 30-minute REEF survey to record the different species and number of each fish observed. Anyone wishing to participate in the snorkel survey should be a strong swimmer, competent snorkeler, and have his/her own mask, snorkel and fins. The snorkel survey will and involve identifying, counting and recording fish observed in the Pupukea Marine Life Conservation District at Shark’s Cove. After the snorkel, we’ll gather back on shore to identify any unknown fish and share sightings of cool marine critters.
BRING: For the fish ID seminar, be sure to bring sun protection and a comfy beach chair since we'll be sitting outside on the grass for an extended period; for those also planning to participate in the snorkel survey, be sure to bring a mask, snorkel, and fins and come prepared to get wet!
