REEF and Peter Hughes started doing this trip in 2009. That first year, the group found ZERO lionfish. In 2011 they collected over 500 in one week! This annual project is documenting the establishment and consequences of invasive lionfish in Belize, as part of REEF’s ongoing effort to minimize the Indo-Pacific predator’s impact on native fish populations. The team will have an opportunity to be trained in lionfish collection and dissections of specimens to document prey. REEF fish surveys will also be conducted.
