In addition to reporting Sunflower Seastars on your REEF surveys in the PAC Region (CA - AK), we are looking for additional information on condition, size, images, and more. This information will help inform a collaborative working group of scientists who are using REEF data and other data sources to evaluate the current population status of Sunflower Stars, as well as the impact and recovery of the species from Sea Star Wasting Disease.

  • You can use this form to submit details on up to three Sunflower Stars sighted on the same dive or on the same beach walk. If you saw more than three on an outing, please submit details on the additional stars on a new form.
  • If you also did a REEF survey, you'll want to submit it first and jot down the form number and zone code.
  • Fields with a * are required.
If you're not a member, you are invited to join, and it's free: www.REEF.org/join
This number is provided on submission. If you didn't record it or you haven't submitted the survey yet, please note that.
You can find REEF Zone codes here: https://www.reef.org/db/zonecodes/?zone_map=1&region_code=PAC
If you saw more than one on a dive, please submit details below for the first sea star (size, condition, and image), then click YES below for "A 2nd Sunflower Star to report from the same dive?" to enter details for more sea stars.
